Larry Bird poured in 30 points as the Boston Celtics broke open a tight game late in the third quarter and crushed the Dallas Mavericks 109-92 in the National Basketball Association last night.

The Celtics led 45-42 at half time. Neither team shot well for the first two quarters, with Boston hitting 41 percent of its field goal attempts and Dallas connecting on just 38 percent.
